From as far back as the 18th Century it became clearer that in this diagram for a each and certainly for a third party, to understand what is being verbally exchanged one has
to have a language about language. A ‘language about language’ is known as a metalanguage.

By the 20th Century, philosophers and linguists were in deep hot pursuit to find it. It was accomplished in the work, Structure of Magic, (SOM) by Richard Bandler, (RB), and John Grinder, (JG). A metalanguage is, in fact, a meta model of a language, They, therefore, named their metalanguage the Meta Model, (2M).

In time, we were shocked to discover that the Meta Model was constructed within the Satir constraints of WHY. We had no choice but to lift WHY and the blame Frame language out of it and reformulate its formats and augment them. We then had to add some new critical formats that were missing. At that time, we had the transient choice to name what we had done the Gathering Information Module, However, out of respect for the originators we changed the name to The Modified Meta Model (3MMM)
